Thomas F. Hoban

Thomas F. Hoban, 72, went to the Lord on Friday, September 26, 2014 surrounded by his family at his home, after a courageous battle with a rare disease, amyloidosis. He was born on August 2, 1942 to John and Pat Hoban in Minneapolis., MN. In 1959, his family moved to Wisconsin on Lake Tippecanoe. He graduated from Lakeland Union High School in 1960 and worked for Emmerich Electric under the direction of John Nolan. In 1961, he enlisted in the Navy. He attended Great Lakes Naval Center. Tom was stationed on the USS IWO Jima (LPH-2) in the Pacific Ocean. While in the Navy he saw Hawaii, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan. After the Navy, he met Mary A. Draeger. They were married in 1966 at Our Lady Queen of the Universe Church in Woodruff, WI. They moved to Wausau where Tom attended North Central Technical Institute. He graduated at the top of his class with a degree in electronics and was hired by IBM following his graduation. He worked in Stevens Point, WI at IBM for 17 years and then transferred to Boulder, CO in 1980. He worked for IBM for 35 years. During his time as a Senior Program Specialist, with IBM, he traveled to Denmark and Europe. He received many Outstanding Achievement Awards and 3 Mears Service Awards for IBM. After retiring in 2000 from IBM, he moved with his wife Mary to Lake Tippecanoe and built their retirement home. Tom was a Jack of all trades. He could bake a pie as well as build a house. He always had a beautiful yard and garden. Tom is survived by his wife, Mary of 48 years; One son, Bryan (Jodi) Hoban of Irma, WI; Three Daughters, Kelly (Joe) Lozinski of Berthoud, CO, Kristy (Tracy) Deaton of Wausau, WI, and Brenda (Philip) Morehead of Bloomington, IL; 6 Siblings, Patty Walker of Woodruff, WI, Kathy (Mike) Martin Corpus Christi, Texas, John (Ellen) Hoban of West Allis, WI, Susan O’Donnell Minneapolis, MN, Joe (Patty) Hoban of Arbor Vitae, WI, and Mary (Ingmar) Venkus of Rockford MI; 11 Grandchildren, Ashley, Caitlyn, Angelica, Sadie, Kadie, Jake, Luke, Kylie, Emma, Kenzie, and Bailee and 4 Step Grandchildren. Tom was a wonderful husband, father, family man, and friend. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank his niece Terry, Deb, Cathy, Gerry and Jim O. from Dr. Kate Ministry Hospice and Dr. Gabert for their care and compassion. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Lac Du Flambeau, WI on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM, with a Memorial gathering beginning at 10:30 AM at the church. The Mass will be followed by a meal. A Tree Planting Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at their home on East Tippecanoe Rd. in Lac Du Flambeau.
