Roy E. Martinez

Roy E Martinez 62 of San Antonio Texas passed away peacefully on March 2nd 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his father Antonio Martinez Sr, and an infant sister. He is survived by his mother Olga Martinez, children Joshua(Laura), Iesha(Jackie), Joe, Isabel, Nahaneh and Seneca. Siblings: Fernando (Gilda), Ruben (Diana), Patricia, Ronald (Wendy), Roland, Belinda, and Antonio Jr. His nieces and nephews: Mindy (Eric), Ryan, Lydia, Pauly, Robert, Fernando Jr, Angel, Leticia, Antonio Ⅲ(Angelica), Selena, Elijah, Martin, Emanuel, Nathaniel, Christopher, Gabriela and Elias. Numerous great nieces and nephews that he loved very much. Roy loved listening to Oldies, watching the Spurs and Cowboys games, cooking and spending time with his family. He liked to spend time with his children and was always thinking of a new way to play fully scare his kids. On weekends he could be found making a roast or brisket on the grill, having a beer and listening to Oldies or watching his beloved Cowboys play. He especially thought about his older children and would check on them regularly to make sure they were doing well in life. Roy had a friendly approachable way about him and was always making friends wherever he went. His way of showing his love was to cook and make sure everyone ate and enjoyed their meal. Roy and his partner Sacheen met in 2014 in Milwaukee and had two kids Nahaneh (8) and Seneca (6) together. Four years ago they unexpectedly moved to Lac du flambeau Indian Reservation, where Sacheen’s family is from and eventually got a home and settled in. They enjoyed taking their children to dance at powwows, exploring the beautiful scenery and attending community events. Roy worked various jobs on the reservation and made a lot of friends as was the norm for him. He enjoyed working and always went above and beyond at whatever he was doing that day. Towards the end of Roy’s life he decided that he wanted a traditional Native funeral as he identified with and really loved the core values and transparency of Native American spirituality. He received his Spirit name from a highly respected Elder in the native community so that his funeral rites could be performed. Ning gaabii ahnung gaabo meaning “western standing man” is Roy’s anishinaabe name that is now part of him in the afterlife. We will always love and miss Roy until we see him again. He is a complex and loving spirit and we will forever remember him in our lives. his playful upbeat presence is so deeply deeply missed everyday. Until we see him again we will always speak his name.
