Mary J. Hanson

Mary J. Hanson, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend began her new life on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. She entered God's Kingdom peacefully from her home in Manitowish Waters. Mary was born on March 14, 1937 to Ralph and Frances (Juliano) Hill in Racine, Wisconsin. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John, sons Dave, Dale (Karen), daughters Dana Hilbert (John), and Diane McMullen (Ben) and four grandchildren, Danny and Shelby Hilbert, Kayla Carlson and Madelyn McMullen. In addition her brother Tom Hill (MaryAnn), and sister Nyla Brunnelson, many nieces and nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers in law survive. She was preceded in death by son Danny, her parents and brother Ronald Hill. Mary and her family moved to Manitowish Waters in 1951 and she attended Hurley High School. She attended college at UW Superior and later in life obtained an LPN degree at Gogebic Community College. She put her degree to good use working at Howard Young Medical Center and Dr. Kate Convalescent Center. In addition she shared many years in the hardware business with her husband. Throughout her life Mary shared her talents by volunteering for many organizations. She was a member of the HYMC Auxiliary and the Manitowish Waters Lioness Club, serving as president of both organizations. She served on the Session of the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church and was always a willing helper when someone or an organization needed a helping hand. She also volunteered as an aide at the North Lakeland Elementary School. Mary loved music and sang in the Community Church Choir, the Pinetones, the Campanile Chorus and Festival of Hymns. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of her singing to them when they were young. She was a talented artist, and many of her pictures adorn the walls of the family’s homes. Sewing and quilting were additionally among her hobbies. She also loved to cook and bake and family gatherings around the table were her favorite times. She will be dearly missed by her family and all her friends. Her cheerful positive attitude, her smile, giving spirit, spunk, sense of humor, hearty laughter and her joy for life have created memories that will uplift all who new and loved her. May God grant her peace. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2014 at Bolger Funeral Home – Woodruff Chapel. A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Manitowish Waters Community Church, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Manitowish Waters.
