Evelyn Johnson

Evelyn M. Johnson passed away on February 1st, 2013 at the age of 89 at Howard Young Medical Center. She was born June 28, 1923 in Morris, IL. She graduated from Morris High School in 1942 and from Silver Cross Hospital in 1945 as a registered nurse. She married David A. Johnson on June 17th, 1950. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1993. In 1956, they moved from Illinois to Hazelhurst, WI. She worked 8 years at Dr. Kate's Hospital and then went to work for Dr. Henry Ashe in 1963. In 1968 Lakeland Medical Associates was developed and she continued to work there until Marshfield Clinic opened. She then worked at Marshfield Clinic until her retirement in 1996 at the age of 72. After retiring from nursing, she became a people greeter at Walmart in Minocqua and continued to work there until July 2012. Evelyn is preceded in death by her Parents: Clarence and Mabel Olson, 3 brothers, Everett, Leroy, and Clarence Olson, and one sister, Eleanor Holloway. She is survived by: 2 sons, Tom (Roberta) Hazelhurst, Jon (Janet) Land O' Lakes, and one daughter, Mary Jo (Joe) Perry, Arbor Vitae. Grandchildren: Gene (Kim) Johnson, Hazelhurst, Daniel Johnson, Woodruff, Adam Johnson, Rochester Hills, MI, Heidi (Dan)Winslow, Maplewood, MN, Laura (Jake) Galloy, Madison, WI, and Licia Johnson, Presque Isle, and 2 step granddaughters, Erica (Jeff) Lane, Land O' Lakes, and Amy (Rich) Hughes, Victoria, MN. Great Grandchildren: Colin, Kayla, Carter Johnson, Parker and Mackenzie Winslow, Sofia and Jackson Lane, and Clara and Nora Hughes. Special friend: Shirley Duwe, Land O' Lakes. She enjoyed snowmobiling, knitting, playing cards, and was a member of Sons of Norway. She was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed many trips traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Services will be held on Feb. 7th, 2013 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minocqua. Visitation is from 10AM - Noon. The funeral service will be at Noon followed by a church luncheon. The family would like to thank Dr. Fossen, Dr. Seidel, Dr. Pogodzinski and the medical staff of Marshfield Clinic at Minocqua, along with Drs. Engelmeier and Riveron from Cardiovascular Associates for the many years of special care given to her. The family requests memorials to the American Heart Association or Calvary Lutheran Church. Evelyn is quoted: "Nursing gives you a feeling you can't get anywhere else. It's a career where you practice from the heart."
