Dorla Henke

Dorla Dean Mehlbrech Henke 77 of Sayner, WI formerly of Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids, was called home into eternal life Friday November 6, 2009. She was surrounded by her loving family while under the care of Ministry Hospice. She was born July 8, 1932 in Marshfield WI, daughter of Viola and Glen Mehlbrech of Pittsville. She was married to the love of her life for 57 years, David Henke August 10, 1952. They made their home in Wisconsin Rapids and later in Stevens Point. Then retired to their honeymoon destination, Sayner, Wl in 1990. Dorla attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, she was employed by Drs. Nelson and Schaller and later worked at Haney's Drug Store. Dorla was an active charter member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church for 54 years. She taught Sunday School for 35 years and catechism for 7 years. Dorla and Dave were Walther League counselors for 13 years and served as witnesses for 12 years in the Kennedy Evangelism Program. She sang in the church choir and attended bible studies for many years. Dorla was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran School Mother's Club for 13 years. She was awarded the CAROL award and later the Outstanding Young Woman of America Award in 1967 by the Jaycettes, where she was recognized for her service to others related to her church and community. In her free time, Dorla enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, and traveling especially to Branson, Missouri. She was a longtime devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers. She dearlyloved her flower gardens and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband David, brother Arlon (Donna) Mehlbrech, daughters Debra (Ray) Henke-Dobson, Sheryl (Greg) Romanski, Pamela (David) Lutz, grandchildren Jennifer (John) Stransky, Dr. Nicole (Douglas) McCauley, Duane (Carly), Scott, and Tony Dobson, David, Daniel (Amanda), Dana and Darren Romanski, Lauren, Richard and Rachel Lutz, great-grandchildren, DeAnna, Meghan, Dennis and August Stransky, Jessica, Chayla, Jeffery, Katelyn, Dominick and Donovan Dobson. She was preceded in death by her mother Viola, Father Glen and infant sister Joan. Friends may call at St. Luke's Lutheran Church from 4:30-7:30 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM on Sunday November 8, 2009 and again 9:00- 10:30 on Monday, November 9, 2009 with service at 10:30.
