Dianna McClung

Dianna Lynn McClung (Colfer, Towne) joined our Lord in Heaven at 1:05pm on September 30, 2011. She was born on February 5, 1955, the first child of David A. Towne and Irene G. Towne (Lund). She joined the military and was successful in all of her endeavors both in the United States and abroad. She met and married James M. Colfer of Michigan in 1974. Her only child, Jennifer Lynn Davis (Colfer) was born on August 20, 1975. The marriage was short lived, as they were both very young and career driven. Dianna assumed sole custody of Jennifer. Dianna left active duty status with the Army and joined the National Guard. She met Gary E. McClung of Granbury, Texas in 1981. They were wed on August 6, 1981 and built a life together in Hephzibah, Georgia. During her twenty plus years of marriage to Gary, Dianna worked at Plant Vogtle, Montgomery Ward, and eventually went to work as a Civilian for the Army at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. She enjoyed working for many years with soldiers and their families and received numerous awards for her dedication and service to the Army. She was eventually diagnosed with a lung disease known as Alpha 1 Anti-Trypsin Deficiency, which forced her to medically retire from the service to our country. The disease took its toll on her marriage to Gary and they were divorced in May of 2003. She bravely fought her illness, while in Georgia, but the climate forced her to relocate to her hometown of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. The change in climate was just what she needed and she began to thrive again. She was even able to return to the workforce at Foster & Smith. She enjoyed helping customers and had many friends. She met Steve Arent in 2006, and they became inseparable. She loved him dearly and ultimately made her last move to Mercer, Wisconsin to live with him. He remained constantly at her side until the day her body could sustain life no more. Dianna was an outspoken woman who said what she believed. For those who knew her well, her heart was larger than she was and always had kindness to offer others. Dianna loved to cook for her family and friends, and always had extra room at the table for anyone who was away from their own families or friends. For those of us left behind, we will miss her laughter, her generosity, her kindness, her good nature, her Red Velvet Cake…and her presence. Dianna is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Davis (Colfer), and her two grandchildren, Joshua B. Davis ("Pooky Boy"), and Dusty Elijah Cody. She is also survived by her siblings, David A Towne (Wendy) of Rhinelander WI, Robert E. Towne (Brenda) of Rhinelander, WI, John E. Towne (Laurie) of Sardenia, OH, and Mary L. Lyness (Steven) of Lancaster, WI. She has 15 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Robin Lee Towne, her Aunts Roberta, Delores, Jennie, and Linda, as well as her mother and father David A. Towne and Irene G. Towne. Dianna's wishes were to celebrate her life with a party. The party will take place at 2232 Hwy C, Rhinelander, Wisconsin at 3p.m. on October 8, 2011. The family's wishes are that those who attend bring a dish to pass and any spirits that they enjoy. For Dianna's Mercer friends, that will be a party announced at a later date.
