Travis J. Maki Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

In loving memory of Travis James Maki Travis James Maki was a loving father, brother, son, uncle, and friend. He passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2024 at the age of 40. Travis was born in Milwaukee on July 13, 1984 but spent a majority of his life in Lac du Flambeau. His love for music, movies, books, and baking made him someone everyone loved to be around. Growing up Travis was a creative and intelligent boy. His love for music started at a young age and continued through is teens as he played saxophone and sang in the choir. Those who were lucky enough to hear Travis sing knew he had a beautiful singing voice, and awed those around him. Travis wasn’t super selective when it came to the kind of music he listened to, but if you asked him who his favorite artist was, he would say Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac without hesitation. Travis was an incredible cook, but his real gift was baking. His kitchen was a place of experimentation and love, where he would often make homemade cakes, breads, and cookies that warmed the heart and soul of anyone lucky enough to try them. He worked as a cook for a lot of his life, enjoying staying busy at popular restaurants, but when asked why he doesn’t bake professionally, he would say he never wants to lose his passion and love for it. His amazing baked goods were a gift to his friends and family, a gift they will never forget. Travis’s humor and kindness are what drew many to him. He had a unique ability to make his friends and family feel safe and valued. They will always cherish his infectious laugh, and his unwavering loyalty, or his love to quote his favorite movies. Although he had his moments of being social, Travis’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with his daughter (Delana Maki) and his best friend (Tara LaBarge). He was a devoted father, giving every ounce of love and care into her, and would want to be remembered as a loving father more than anything else. Travis leaves behind a daughter Delana Maki, his parents Bill and Karen, best friend Tara LaBarge, a brother Brett, sisters Melissa, Rebecca, Samantha, Katrina, and his many nieces and nephews. Travis we will miss your love and laughter, but we will carry your memory on with us. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Multi-Purpose Building in Lac du Flambeau. A Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 AM on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at the Multi-Purpose Building followed by burial in Memorial Cemetery in Lac du Flambeau.
