JEANETTE SHIRLEY ROEMER Jeanette Shirley Roemer, age 86, died Thursday, June 21, after a difficult battle with cancer. She died peacefully, surrounded by her children and husband, listening to her favorite music. Jeanette was born on January 23, 1926, in Split Rock Wisconsin, the sixth child born to Paul and Ella Sabrowsky. She attended school in Tigerton Wisconsin, and after high school went to work in the 4-Wheel Drive factory where she was a bookkeeper. She married Benjamin Charles Roemer on June 25, 1949 and the couple moved to Manitowish Waters that same year, where they built and ran the Rod & Reel, a bait and guide shop. As her husband built another business, Trueflight Manufacturing Company, Jeanette devoted herself to raising three children. Jeanette was an active member of the Lioness Club, regularly gave blood for 40 years, served on the local elementary School Board for several years and was a member of the Trout Lake Golf Club. She was an avid Packer fan, but loved sports of all kinds-she attributed this to being a "tom-boy" with 3 older brothers; she often told her family she had never played with dolls in her life. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, cross country skiing & bowling. Jeanette loved to golf and won many golf awards. She traveled to Mexico, Canada, Spain, The Canary Islands, Panama Canal, Alaska and many other states, visiting friends & family. She was a talented seamstress who made her daughter's wedding dresses and many, many items for her six grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baked many an apple pie for friends in need. Her friends often referred to her as "the Lady in red", as red was her favorite color and she wore it often. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She organized bake sales, went on class trips, provided props for plays, went camping with Girl Scouts even though she hated camping, created many a Halloween costume and made each holiday special. She baked and decorated her 'cut-out' cookies for every major occasion and she was still helping her children when they were in college by typing their essays for them. Jeanette was her grandchildren's greatest fan and supporter-her love and care changed their lives forever. She taught them how to play golf, cards, water ski, swing a bat, how to polka, sew, cook and how to be considerate, thoughtful people. "Grammy", as they called her, loved her grandchildren not only for their accomplishments, but for the people they grew up to be, and they loved her back with adoration. Grammy was always there to listen, give advice, and reassure them that they would prevail in any challenges that they faced. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, two nieces and many dear friends. Jeanette is survived by her husband, B.C. Roemer; sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson; children Peter Roemer, Janet Eidson (Tom Eidson), Lori Roemer (Jeff Majchrzak); her loving grandchildren, Christine, Libby, Cody, Jake, Callie and Wiley; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be Wed, June 27 at 6 p.m. at the Bolger Chapel, Woodruff WI. A reception and dinner will immediately follow the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
