Elaine "Ginny" S. Whitney

Elaine S. “Ginny” Whitney passed away at her home in Minocqua, Wisconsin, on February 9, 2015, supported by the thoughts and prayers of her loving family. She was 85 years of age, and remained very active throughout her life. She deeply loved her devoted husband, precious family, dear friends, the North Woods, flowers, tending her vegetable garden, and feeding the birds. Ginny was born in Evanston, Illinois, on August 15, 1929, to Delores and Adrian Van Kampen. She was a quiet, shy girl, who excelled in school and developed an aptitude for the piano at an early age. She attended Taft High School in Chicago, graduating in June 1947. Ginny married her sweetheart, Al Whitney, on June 19, 1948. They began their joy-filled life together in Chicago, where the first of their four children was born. A loving and beloved wife, mother, and homemaker for many years, she became a highly successful real estate broker, beginning with Whitney Real Estate, in 1964, and working for various real estate companies until 1997. Ginny spent her life in loving service to God. As a devoted, life-long Christian Scientist, she served in many capacities for the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Arlington Heights, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Barrington, and First Church of Christ, Scientist, Woodruff, wherein “retirement years,” she served the community as First and Second Reader. Following retirement, Ginny and Al settled in Minocqua, Wisconsin where they built a beautiful home in the woods that brought visits from children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They opened a shop, the Knitters Nook, in downtown Minocqua, where Ginny--a skilled knitter--taught classes, sold yarn, and made many friends. Ginny was preceded in death by her mother, Delores; brother, Adrian; father, Adrian; sister, Barbara. She is survived by: husband, Al; half-sister, Leslie Van Kampen Ames; children, Gregory (Heidi), Scott (Carol); James (Jan); and Jennifer (Ron); eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service for Ginny is planned for a later date. The family would like to thank Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Home Care staff for their kind and loving service.
