Betty Soulier

"Grandma Betty" ----- Betty Lou Soulier, age 85, of Lac Du Flambaeu, went home to the Lord, while at the Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, Wi. Betty Lou was born on July 26, 1926 in Lac du Flambeau the daughter of LaVera (nee Allen) and Thomas J. Mc Burney Sr. She was raised in the Lac du Flambeau Community and graduated from the Lac du Flambeau High School in 1944. Betty Lou was united in marriage to Eugene P. Soulier on August 23,1947. She worked for Simpson Electric Company for 20 years and then for the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians for the next 20 years as a Community Health Repesentative. Some of the various committies she was involved within our community were the Election Board, Enrollment Committee, Family Resource Center Indian Child Welfare Advisory Board, GLNEA- Great Lakes Elder Association. She was also involved with the St. Anthony's Catholic Church Kateri Tekawitha club. She was a Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Auntie. Betty Lou always supported her sons in there sporting events as they grew up. Betty Lou was always there for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Whether it was on the sidelines of a football game, or in a swim pool house or a basketball game, volleyball game, she was always there to cheer. Grandma Betty Lou always attended the school functions for her grandchildren nieces and nephews. Grandma Betty Lou always loved to bake and cook. Grandma Betty Lou will be missed dearly for all her dedication and teachings that she has passed onto us and to her many friends and relatives. Grandma Betty Lou (Betty Boop) lived her dash to the fullest. She nurtured the hearts of many and always shared a smile, a hug or a laugh. Grandma Betty Lou loved sewing, cooking and would insure that you left her house well fed. Her appreciation for nature was evident as you came to her home and saw flowers in bloom, birds at the feeders and her pets well taken care of. Grandma Betty Lou always enjoyed going to her Pow-Wows, whether in Lac du Flambeau or in the state of Wisconsin. Grandma Betty Lou had always did the last minute touch ups to Brian and Presley's regalia, as they both danced in the Pow-Wows. Grandma Betty Lou loved to watch the dancers dance as they displayed there beautiful colors and there fancy moves. Grandma Betty Lou loved to listen to her Pow-Wow music. Grandma Betty Lou loved sharing her Ojibwe Culture with her grandchildren nieces and nephews, whether it was through story telling or simply showing them how to bead and cook May the Creator accept your loving kind soul with the love and kindness that you have shown for the people on our reservation. Grandma Betty Lou is the epitome of an Angel on this earth she will be surely missed for her unwavering kindness and her infectious smile. Grandma Betty Lou is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and LaVera (Allen) McBurney Sr., along with her sister Audrey A.Wayman and her niece Michelle L.Wayman her nephew Lucien Allen. Grandma Betty Lou is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Eugene Sr. and her 3 sons and 1 daughter. Eugene Jr., Wayne and Brian Soulier and Betty Lou Wayman all of Lac du Flambeau. Her brother Thomas J.(Margaret) Mc Burney Jr.and her brother in law Thomas L. Wayman Jr. she is further survived by her grandchildren, Chris (Dawn) Renee (Tim Anhalt) Kristin, Brian Jr.(Taryn), Zach, Clint. Great Grandchildren, Samantha, Braden, Jacob, Samuel, Benjamin, Madelyn, Liahna, Skylee, Shane, Sienna. She is further survived by nieces and nephews Michelle, Waylon, Audrey Presley, Dixie, Kasey, Thomas, Emily, Raenan, Donald (Marie) Tre' John-Robert, Donovan, Donald Jr. Annreesia, Nichelle, LaVera, baby Thomas and many relatives and friends. Our family would like to extend an appreciation to the Heart Warming and Compassionate Staff at the Seasons of Life Hospice House and her Entire Medical Team. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with a visitation on Thursday, January 12 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Bolger Funeral Home-Woodruff Chapel.
