Betty A. Selke Betty A. Selke, age 88, of Boulder Junction – formerly of Milwaukee, went home to the Lord on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Avanti Health and Rehabilitation in Minocqua. Betty was born on December 17, 1929 in Milwaukee. She was the daughter of Arthur and Francis (nee Speers) Snyder. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frederick W. Selke; her parents, Arthur & Francis Snyder; her brother, Robert J. Snyder and her son-in-law, James P. Konopacki. Betty graduated from Rufus King High School in Milwaukee. Upon graduation, Betty worked for Northwestern Mutual Life, Koehring Co, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and Milwaukee City Hall. She married her husband Fred on April 23, 1949 and they were married for 51 years. As a young child, she spent her summers with her cousins helping on the family farms in the Brothertown and Chilton area. The Northwood’s, especially Boulder Junction, has been a part of Betty’s life since the early 1940’s when her parents would bring their family here to vacation with friends. Her parents acquired land and built a seasonal cabin in 1947. Most of her summers were spent in the Northwood’s where she enjoyed just sitting by the lake. It always brought her peace and happiness. Betty was a woman dedicated to her family. There wasn’t anything she wasn’t willing to do for them and the sky was the limit for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her Irish heritage shined through as she enjoyed cooking her famous St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage dinners. However, she especially enjoyed baking. Her family always looked forward to her famous chocolate chip cookies along with all of her other delicious family treats. Her loving hands enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting. Many family heirlooms were created by her. Betty also enjoyed playing cards, (May I, Sheepshead, and Royal Rummy) quality time enjoyed by all. She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Konopacki of Boulder Junction and Joan and Theodore Rake of Florida. As well as her three wonderful grandchildren, Kristine (Konopacki) Karrels (Jon Buerger) of Waukesha, John Konopacki (Carrie) of Waukesha, Katie (Konopacki) Crandall (Joe Pijan) of Arbor Vitae and her six caring great-grandchildren, Josh (Becky) Karrels of Elkhorn, Matthew Karrels (Hannah Cox) of Darlington, Jake and Jodie Konopacki of Waukesha and Abby and Brooke Crandall of Arbor Vitae; along with LaVerne Selke (sister-in-law) and many caring nieces & nephews. The family would like to thank Avanti Health and Rehabilitation of Minocqua for their dedication and care of our beloved Betty, Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Boulder Junction, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will follow in the Boulder Junction Cemetery.
