Duane Horstman

Duane R. Horstman, 73, died Friday March 4, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Duane was born at home on Feb. 8th, 1938 in Bangor, WI. He was the son of the late Harry C. and Mary (Albers) Horstman. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force where he was a radar tech. He married Sharon (Powell) Horstman on June 22, 1957 and they resided in Denver, Co., and Everett, WA. After his honorable discharge, the couple farmed briefly on the home farm before purchasing a farm in Chaseburg, WI. He moved his family to northern Wisconsin when they purchased Pope’s Gresham Lodge in Woodruff, WI. They built the Boulder Jct. Motor Lodge in 1989, and have since resided in their current home for 13 years. Duane was an avid fisherman since childhood, and was a professional fishing guide for the past 32 years. He was a past member of the Chaseburg Rod & Gun Club, Boulder Jct. Chamber of Commerce, Boulder Jct. Guides Assoc. and the Boulder Jct. Snowmobile Club where he served as president for several years. Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of Boulder Jct. Daughters, Kay (Mike) Widule of Sugar Camp, Kim (David) Borski of Stevens Point, Kelly (David) Johnson of Pepin and son, Kevin (fiancé Maggie) Horstman of Boulder Jct. Seven grandchildren: Aryn Widule, Adrea Widule, Tim (Bianca) Borski, Keith (Ann) Borski, Leif Johnson, Erika Johnson and Lance Johnson; sisters, Marvel (Roger) McClintock of West Salem, Janice (the late Ervin) Abraham of Onalaska, Muriel (Bill)Sandman of West Salem, brothers, Doug of Phelps, Ken of Watersmeet, MI. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Taylor Mae Johnson; one sister, Ruth French; and one brother, Walter. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 at Community Church of Boulder Jct. with Pastor Timothy Hawkinson officiating.
