Carolyn J. Patterson

Carolyn Myers Patterson passed away on May 6, 2017, surrounded by her children. She was preceded in death by her daughter Patrice, and her husband Tom. Carolyn is survived by four children: Bruce Patterson, Thomas John Patterson (Lynda), Robert Patterson (Beth), and Tamolyn Benke (Steve); and eight grandchildren: Karoline, Katherine, Elaine, Amanda, Charlotte, Jayne, Henry, and James. Carolyn is also survived by her siblings George Myers, Susan Nitsos, and Lois Tahy. Carolyn was born on October 6, 1933 in Mishawaka, Indiana. After graduating from Mishawaka High School, she attended McMurry College, where she studied English. Eventually, she met Roberta Patterson, the sister of her future husband Tom. Roberta introduced the two during a classic Minocqua summer, and they wed on May 29, 1956 in Missoula, Montana. Carolyn and Tom settled in Idaho for a short period before returning to Minocqua to contribute to the Patterson Bros. Lumber business. After settling in Wisconsin, Carolyn and Tom raised five children, spending time running Patterson’s Clear Lake Resort and their own home on Whitefish Lake. Carolyn was a social woman, with numerous close friendships, both in Wisconsin and beyond. She volunteered with the Cheery Cherries, and was an active member in the Jolly Jocks. Through her involvement in those organizations, as well as her own desire to travel, she and Tom saw many corners of the globe. Destinations included Alaska, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Mexico, the Bahamas, as well as the homes of her children and grandchildren in Europe and the United States. Carolyn formed many relationships during her life, and each person she connected with was impacted by her. Her children will remember her as a strong, loving mother; one who led their family and was an unwavering presence. Her friends will remember the fun-loving woman who appreciated a good drink and even better company. They will cherish the memories and laughs created by countless trips and travels, and her overall loving interest in their lives and families. Carolyn, Mom, Grandma ….. The many hats she wore created one listening, loving, and beautiful woman. One who will be deeply missed by all those who knew her. Celebration of her life will be on May 20, 2017 from 2-6-PM at the Patterson Residence, 1157 Patterson Lane, Lac du Flambeau, WI 54538.
