Carol J. Johnson

Carol Jean (Peterson) Johnson, age 72, of Hazelhurst, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Legacy of the Northwoods in Eagle River. She was born on October 28, 1950, in Madison, the daughter of Paul and Dorothy (nee Sander) Peterson. Carol attended Glenbard East High School (Class of 1968) in Lombard, IL and went on to graduate from Illinois State University (Class of 1972) with a degree in Special Education. Carol married John William Johnson on July 15, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Plaines, IL. Carol served on the PTO at Devonshire Elementary and Friendship Junior High. She was a band parent who assisted with competitions at Elk Grove High School. She was a Den Leader and a proud mother of an Eagle Scout. Carol was an avid traveler; she enjoyed the National Parks out west, toured the Scandinavian countries, visited East and West Germany before the wall came down, visited Alaska, and took many Caribbean cruises. She traveled most of the United States and Canada. Carol had many hobbies; she enjoyed reading, photography, and painting (especially watercolors). She also loved sewing, making patchwork quilts, gardening, designing landscaping and collecting pottery. Carol worked at Minnesota Fabrics and at Trig’s as a cashier and in the photo lab. As a member of the Lutheran Church of Martha and Mary, while living in Illinois, she was involved in many activities, including the church bell choir. After moving to Wisconsin, she became a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she served as a greeter, usher, and on the Altar Guild. She enjoyed spending time on the dock at home and taking scenic drives in the Northwoods with her husband. Carol is survived by her husband, John Johnson; son, Seth (Kristin) Johnson; grandchildren, Emily and Owen Johnson; brother, Robert (Mary Sue) Peterson; sister, Barbara (James) Noonan; brother, Clifford Peterson; brother-in-law, Gregory (Suzanne) Johnson; and many other loving family members and friends. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses, doctors, social workers, and case workers at Legacy of the Northwoods, Marshfield Medical Center – Minocqua, and Compassus Hospice who all cared for Carol. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Bolger Funeral Home in Woodruff, with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer's Association.
